project summary

African cultural heritage documents in Brazil include testimonies, texts and images that show the traces of people's actions in the past and reflect a colonizing vision in its (in)ability to touch, hear, dance and act in relation to the other epistemology. In this project we built a map of the traces of African heritage in music and dance in Brazil from a relational database of texts, period images and representations. The bank will be enriched by coding or analysis related to the records that will allow deeper insights into the collection., such as references to body postures in the image, bodies, placements, analysis of terms and relationships between terms in texts, quotes from instruments and dances.  The aim is to identify tacit relationships in the documentation, epoch recording capacity issues, markers and characteristics of interlocutors, among others. The project ends with the documentation and public dissemination of the database for collaboration (base external power) and promotion of studies in other institutions.
